DJ. Producer. Engineer. Record Collector. Hip Hop Junkie.
Growing
up on the east side of Detroit, Hip Hop for Don Kutta was everyday
life. Having cousins that were rapping and DJIng, it was only a
matter time that he was going to find himself apart of the scene too.
Since 2001, he had been DJing locally and performed in renowned DJ
competitions. It wasn't until entering college, though, that he
naturally progressed into beat making. Inspired by iconic Hip Hop
producers such as Pete Rock, RZA, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Madlib and Detroit's own J
Dilla, he wanted to participate more on the creative side and produce
records.
Over time, Don Kutta amassed a huge collection of vinyl records. Through this collection, he developed a deep appreciation for Jazz, Funk, Soul, Rock, Punk and everything else in between inspiring him to create. In the studio, Don Kutta is armed with the MPC 2000XL as the weapon of choice accompanied with quite a few keyboard synths to round out the Don Kutta sound. Though sampling is his heart, he does apply his classically trained background having played the violin, viola, drums and piano since age seven.
Currently, Don Kutta has produced for a handful of artists and the "go to" producer for "King" Curt Solomon and Rich Smith (formerly D Rich aka GetRich). He is continuing to grow not only as a producer but as a businessman now running a record label, Fifty4 East Recordings. It will be exciting to see what Don Kutta has in store as we look ahead.
